Etxebarria Park:
Only 25 years ago, the place housed a steel factory. Today it is an enormous park, a transformation that symbolises the change the city underwent during the 80s, from an industrial town to a place for leisure. The park lies on a sloped terrain, on one of the hillsides surrounding the valley on which the city nestles, which makes it a privileged vantage point to get a view of the city centre, especially the Old Quarter and the Arriaga Theatre. When we look at the city from the park we understand why city dwellers call their hometown the botxo ("the hole"). The park lies on the lot of an old metallurgical plant from which an iron-and-brick chimney, which can be seen from almost everywhere in the city, remains as a memorial.
