Arenal Bridge
The bridge was formerly called Isabel II and was destroyed during the second Carlist War. The bridge we can see today was designed by the engineer Adolfo de Ibarretxe around 1938.
Santander Railway Station - Concordia
The station was built in 1898 by Severino de Achúcarro and Valentín Gorbeña. Its spectacular façade facing the estuary and the La Naja pier is a good example of the Modernist influence in Achúcaro's creations. The station, which has been remodelled and refurbished, is the departure point of FEVE trains to Balmaseda and Santander.
Bilbao's Society
The building, designed by Emiliano de Amann in Central European style, was opened in 1913. It is a private club whose atmosphere mirrors the English comfort and customs adopted by Bilbao's bourgeoisie.
The Stock Exchange Building
It is located right opposite Abando railway station and dates back to 1905. Bilbao's architect Enrique de Epalza built it on the lands of "La Concordia". The façade is very elegant and the interior has been totally renewed in a very modern style.
La Plaza Circular
This square in modern Bilbao is surrounded by modern bank buildings. It marks the beginning of the Gran Vía, behind Arenal bridge. The square features a central column on which a statue representing Diego López de Haro, created by the Valencia-born artist Benlliure in 1890, stands out. López de Haro was the city's founder.
Abando Railway Station
The station has a huge iron structure and an artistic glass window showing all the economic activities in Vizcaya.

BBVA Building
This old classical building crowned by Mercury was created by Pedro de Guimón in 1922, and then replaced by an impressive 20-storey skyscraper, which was the main office of Banco de Vizcaya from 1968 until it merged with Bilbao y Argentaria. José Luis de Villanueva created the magnificent prismatic glass BBVA building, a symbol of the power of Bilbao's financial district. In the same area, the La Granja café is a traditional place in Bilbao as is the original underground station called " Fosterito " by the city dwellers after Norman Foster, who designed Bilbao's underground.
Campos Elíseos Theatre
It was built in an open leisure area called Campos Elíseos and it was opened in 1902. Its designers were architect Acebal and Darroguy, the French designer. A veritable Art Noveau gem with an original modernist façade, the building is referred to by some people as "la bombonera" de Bertendona (Bertendona's chocolate gift box).
La Gran Vía de Don Diego López de Haro
Gran Vía is the main artery in Bilbao's Ensanche. Grand tree lines run along the avenue, which hosts the most important bank offices and shops, both large shopping malls and elegant shops and boutiques.
Albia Gardens
Quiet, with plenty of trees, the gardens are a tranquil oasis within the commercial and financial bustle of Ensanche. The square is beautiful and calm, and it is surrounded by buildings created by renown architects . In one of those buildings died Antonio de Trueba , the writer from Vizcaya, in whose honour stands a sitting statue sculpted by Mariano Benlliure in 1895.
Judicial Court building
This building dates back to the 1950s, and it has been remodelled, enlarged and embellished recently.
Iruña Cafe
Its beautiful interior, decorated in neo-Nazari fashion, makes it the city's liveliest café. It hosts special gatherings and reunions.
Sabin Etxea
This square-shaped, granite building serves as the headquarters of the Partido Nacionalista Vasco (P.N.V., Basque National Party). The site was the birthplace of Sabino Arana, the party's founder in 1897.
Abando's Saint Vincent Martyr Church
This is a pretty Basque-Gothic church dating back to the 16 th century. It has a Renaissance façade with a triumphal arch. The main altarpiece is quite large in size. The church contains the tomb of Antonio de Trueba, the poet.
Ibaigane Palace
The Basque-style palace was built by architect Gregorio de Ibarretxe. It used to belong to Sir Ramón de la Sota, but it has been acquired and remodelled by the Athletic Club de Bilbao. It has beautiful gardens.
Ensanche Square
It is dominated by the Ensanche Market's building, which houses the offices of Bilbao Turismo, Bilbao 700 cultural foundation, Bilbao Gazte Sarea (an information centre for the youth) and Bilbao's local newspaper . In the adjacent streets there are elegant clothes and decoration shops, galleries, and so on. The Ensanche is famous for its good cafés and restaurants. Outstanding buildings, houses from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, look onto the square and Colón de Larreategui street.
Bank of Spain Building
It was built by Julián de Apraiz circa 1923. It is decorated with a magnificent cornice.
Bilbao Bank Building
This impressive building shows huge classical Ionic columns and a sheltered Mercury. It was built by Pedro de Guimón in 1922 for the bank that has merged with Banco de Vizcaya y Argentaria to form the BBVA.
Provincial Government's House
Before having its headquarters in this building, the Government's seat used to be in Nueva square. The building, inaugurated on 31 July 1900, was designed by Luis Aladren, an Aragón-born architect who moved to San Sebastián. Compact and elegant, it features an ashlar façade, pedimented windows and a grand balcony over the main entrance.
Its interior, where there is an imperial stair, is decorated with frescoes by Anselmo Guinea, glass windows and sculptures
