Arenal's Walkway and Pier
The houses on Viuda de Epalza street, a set of remodelled 19 th century buildings, embellish the area. Further on, Arenal changes its name to Muelle de Sendeja (Sendeja Pier), opposite De la Naja Walkway.
City Hall Bridge
This drawbridge was built 20 metres away from the old suspension bridge, known as " perra chica " (5-cent coin) after the amount of money that had to be paid in order to cross it. Its bascule mechanism has been out of order for some years now.
City Hall
The City Hall lies on the lands that used to be the Augustinian Monastery. The building, based on City Council architect Joaquín Rucoba's plan, was inaugurated on 17 April 1892. Its stylish design includes a spire lying on a central body with balconies and a colonnade. In its interior, the Arab Hall, designed by José del Solar, stands out for its wonderful decoration. It is here that civil weddings are held.
Campo Volantín
This is the most famous walkway in the city. It was built in 1863 and remodelled in 1878. Lined by tall trees, it runs along the estuary's right bank from the City Hall to the La Salve square. It is an old residential drive flanked by gardens, small palaces and houses belonging to Bilbao's bourgeoisie.
Artxanda funicular railway
The funicular railway's itinerary covers 800 metres up to the top of the Artxanda mountain, "the city's lungs", as it is sometimes called. The mountain's viewpoint, in its natural environment, allows for a nice panorama of the whole city and its estuary. There are many restaurants and bars in the area, where you can sip txakolis or regional young white wines.
Zubizuri or Calatrava's Footbridge
This work by Santiago Calatrava resembles a white sailboat on a crystal platform that joins the two river banks by means of a huge white slanting pylon.

Olabarri Palace
This eclectic palace built by architect Julián Zubizarreta has wonderful large windows and terraces. The offices of the Bilbao's Autonomous Port function in this building.
La Salve Bridge and Plaza
It represents the place where sailors could get a glimpse of the Begoña Basilica from the estuary, chanting a prayer to Virgin Mary, a pious custom recalled in a small monument.
There is a lift that takes visitors to the La Salve bridge, an important architectural landmark built in the 1970s. It is the North entrance to the city centre (from Begoña) through two arteries, Recalde and Mazarredo avenues.
University of Deusto
It is a privately-run university which belongs to the Society of Jesus. The institution has two buildings. The larger is the Literary University, designed by Marqués de Cubas in an austere classical style. It was inaugurated in 1886 and has three bodies with Neo-romanesque pediments and windows. Its interior is divided into two large sectors, a royal stair, an auditorium, a Gothic chapel and a delicate library.
The second building is the Business University, built by José M. de Basterra and Emiliano de Amann in 1916. The two buildings share a park featuring exotic species. There is also a third iron and glass building added in 1990.
